  From 'St Matthew's Parish Registers 1810-1856' - Samuel's baptismal entry on 29th February 1824, records his parents as Samuel & Mary Huxley, his birth date as 9th July 1813, birthplace as Portland Head, the baptism place as Portland Head and his father's occupation as Farmer. On the same day his brothers James and John, and sister Esther were baptised, recording the parents incorrectly also as 'Samuel & Mary'. Also baptised that day was their nephew, Thomas Huxley III, the 2 month old son of Thomas II & Mary Huxley. Below the 5 entries is written 'this entry entered by John Cross from a list furnished by Revd T Hassal'. It is fair to assume that a mistake has been made in the recording or transcribing the correct parents first names on 'the list'. Conflict also arises with the birth years of Samuel and brothers James & John. In 'Transported to Paradise' - Doug Huxley says on page 18 '........showing Ann & Thomas gave their birth dates as James - 20th February 1811, Samuel - 9th July 1813 and John -

  DEATH NOTICE: Samuel Huxley, father of Messrs Thomas, Samuel, Richard and Edward Huxley, died on Tuesday morning suddenly at his son's residence on the Pitt Town Road, at the advanced age of 82 years, the cause of death being senile decay. He was buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Pitt Town, Mr. T. Primrose being the undertaker.
