  • Anecdote*: She went to see Uncle Tom leave on the train when he was going to France and she said all the soldiers were singing 'Hold Your Hand Out You Naughty Boy' (which was an old vaudiville song I understand) as the train pulled out of the station. If that song happened to be played on the radio when I was at home we always turned it off so Granny could not hear it as it always upset
    her.
Another little note about Granny her favourite song was 'After the Ball was Over'. It is a shame I never thought to ask why this song meant so much to her.

Maria Carter was my grandmother and she lived with her son Reginald (my father) from 1917 until 1951 when she died. I have many 'tales' about her and I nursed her when she died. She was always 'Granny in the front room' to us children.
